The former Ku-ring-gai councillor, Janine Kitson, will stand as an independent at the next federal election. Ms Kitson, has obtained the necessary 100 nominations, and more, from her Bradfield electorate to stand as an independent candidate. Once the Prime Minister calls an election the Australian Electoral Commission makes the nomination form available. Aside from taking her duties very seriously when on Ku-ring-gai Council, Ms Kitson promoted NSW's heritage as a former National Trust (NSW) Director. She has been a strong advocate for the protection of Lithgow's spectacular 'Gardens of Stone' through the ecotourism plan known as 'Destination Pagoda' whilst as Colong Foundation for Wilderness Deputy Chair. Miss Kitson is on the public record for opposing overdevelopment in the Ku-ring-gai local government area. These commitments are at the ‘heart’ of her standing as a strong federal independent candidate. Ms Kitson seeks to ensure that the next federal government commits to urgent action on climate change, establishing a strong anti-corruption commission and ensuring the ABC is well funded and valued for its independence.
Ms Janet Fairlie-Cuninghame, Bradfield bush regeneration pioneer, said: "The Bradfield electorate needs a MP who will work to ensure all Australians are able to transition to a clean energy future, without being hostage to party politics. Janine has a history of working hard and influencing responsible environmental decisions across New South Wales. I respect Janine's integrity and genuine understanding of the responsibilities for political office. She will make an excellent MP for Bradfield.”
Dr Gordon Elkington, barrister and Bradfield voter said: "We have just seen the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption call out ‘pork barrelling’ which has led to the resignation of the NSW Premier. This signals how urgent it is to have a federal integrity commission. Janine Kitson knows that no matter how important you are - you cannot be above the law.'
Mr Elvis Kipman, long time Bradfield resident and ABC supporter said: "The ABC is the single most important force in my life. When the government cuts the ABC's budget it actually robs Australians of their right to quality programs that they deserve. I am endorsing Janine Kitson because she is committed to strengthening our national public broadcaster."
