Janine Kitson, Bradfield community leader, is preparing to stand as an Independent candidate in the upcoming Federal election for the seat of Bradfield, currently held by Mr Paul Fletcher, Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts. Janine Kitson is a former Ku-ring-gai Councillor, National Trust (NSW) Director, Colong Foundation for Wilderness Deputy Chair as well as an inaugural convener of the ABC Friends NSW & ACT branch that covers the federal electorates north of Sydney Harbour. Janine Kitson, said: "I have spent a life time fighting for heritage and the environment; empowering the lives of children as a teacher and believing we can make a difference if we all work together to solve problems. I can no longer abide the Morrison Government's failure to tackle the important issues of our time - climate change, integrity and accountability in politics and the need for a strong and independent ABC. Australia needs to urgently act on our climate emergency. The Morrison's climate policies have no credibility with no plans to reach net zero emissions before 2050. It is time Australia stepped up and stopped being a 'climate laggard'. We also need to question the Morrison Government's commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability in government. Why aren't his Ministers being held to account? Where is the investigation into the Leppington 'Triangle' land deal, near Western Sydney Airport, that was purchased for $30 million but only valued at $3 million? Why wasn't the $660 million commuter car parking ‘pork barrelling rort' condemned? Where is the probity into Minister Porter's 'blind trust' fund? Without commitment to creating a national anti-corruption body, the Morrison Government reveals it has no sincerity in defending Australia's democratic values and institutions.
Bradfield's residents greatly value their national broadcaster. They want the ABC well funded, independent and strong - yet the Bradfield MP who is also the Minister of Communications keeps undermining and defunding it."
Tanya Wood, a long time member of Bradfield community groups, said: "Local environmental groups highly respect Janine due to her decades of commitment to the community." Janine Kitson's 'Bradfield Can Do Better' campaign relies on grassroots community volunteers and small donations. Janine Kitson announced her intention to stand as a Federal candidate prior to the COVID lockdown. In May 2021 she organised a viewing of the climate change documentary 'The Weather Diaries' by Bradfield filmmaker Kathy Drayton at Roseville Cinema in May 2021 which was attended by 100 guests. Respected climate authority Ian Dunlop and environmentalist Nancy Pallin supported this 'Bradfield Can Do Better' launch. Janine Kitson grew up in the Bradfield electorate, attending local schools, both as a student and a teacher. Contact: Janine Kitson - 0428 860 623 bradfieldcandobetter.org |
